Re: Getting a start

*~Celle righted herself and checked around herself to assess what K was referring to.~*

Ah, shit . . . Geez, that hurt. Good thing his healing's so yummy . . . Fuck, okay, well . . .

*~No longer talking to herself, Celle decided that she didn't particularly feel like extracting those pearls without a spotter, at the moment, so she turned back home.~*

Re: Getting a start

((I'll make the new thread on my next turn, as this post and your next will be the conversation that occurs as we go down the broadway. Sorry for the delay, by the way. The computer situation is not yet resolved, and sharing this one doesn't work out to let me configure my schedule as desired.))

Lots of both, really. My parents got me started. At first, I was much more interested in reading fiction, actually. One day, they made a working replica of a comic book superhero's transportation disk, my at-the-time favorite, Erwin Mozenaerth Pulse. It was my seventh birthday. Needless to say, I was inspired, and that led me to lots of self-teaching along with paying greater heed to my parents, which eventually led to apprenticeship under Uncle Jerry. Mom and Dad's personal library was more expansive than Uncle Jerry's, but he was more skilled, so it was a good way to broaden my perspective. Eventually, I attained a more independent status, since we were at the point at which he was learning almost as much from me as I was from him. How about you? Where did you learn what you know?

Re: Getting a start

Heh, I don't need to burn your whole arm. This is just faintly magical hydrogen-rhodokeklium, not anything too serious.

*~Once outside, she stopped to perform more hand motions, resealing her house. She then led Keyfie down the Village Broadway.~*

Not too far into the Abyssal Sea, there is a nest of greater charybdian clams. They have a powerful move called the Vortex Swallow, which allows them to draw prey in from a good distance very strongly. Their regular pearls are not especially valuable, but they also form pearls in their auxillary livers, just beneath their third stomachs. We need some of those.

Re: Getting a start

Why would that stop you from healing up?

*~Celle took Keyfie's wrist in the hand that held the yellow strip and put his hand on the arm of the nearest chair, then slashed diagonally downward, perpendicularly to the angle of his arm. She was faster than Keyfie; he didn't even have the chance to wimp out if the inclination struck him. The machete dug clear into him and stopped only at the bone. Novel to Keyfie, though, it was actually painless. If any pain was involved, it was purely psychosomatic. The blade slid out immediately, but blood didn't gush and spurt; it flowed through the air in an arc and infused into the yellow strip that Celle was now holding up, which caused it to turn dark blue.~*

Mend.

()A light mote traveled from Kenizz' right hand to Keyfie, whereupon it infused him with a brief glow and repaired his tissue damage.()

See? Easy. Let's go get some greater charybdian clam deep pearls.

*~Celle put the blue strip into her buttpack, walked to the door, and held it open for the guys.~*

I'll go do that job for Zacharias, then take a nap. Full night planned, you know?

()Kenizz followed and departed.()

Right. Take it easy, Kenizz.

Re: Getting a start

Oh, I just need a good enough sample of your blood to use an inexpensive, but effective mental modulator. It's not like you can't heal it right afterward.

*~Celle casually drew a strip of some yellow metal and a green machete from her buttpack.~*

Re: Getting a start

*~Celle tapped her chin, then stared at the jar. She gazed upward for a bit, then back to the jar, then back to Keyfie.~*

I think that I get what you want, now. That brings me down to two questions: I'm going to hold your arm and take a whack at it to get some of your blood. Is that going to be a problem? Second, do you want to go on a submarine ride or just go to bed and come back tomorrow?

()Kenizz' eyes turned upward-rightward as he thought about what she was referring to, then he nodded to himself as it clicked.()

Re: Getting a start

No, it'd be like mine. My culfruub crystal is a bit out of your budget, but there are cheaper alternatives.

He was intrigued by the various oozes and crystals that have been used. We weren't sure what to suggest from those.

Ah, yes. You know, if you're not quite so concerned about the subtlety just yet, there is a recent development that will interest you.

*~She drew a jar of some jelly. Its coloration was horizontal stripes of blue and black, and it was splotchy.~*

It turns out that a mixture of jelly from Jerry's mutated blue and black flans has all the right properties when mixed with the usual cocktail of reactants; it'll pull you like a magnet line, rearm and reform itself quickly enough and work in small enough chunks that you can go from movement to movement fluidly, soften landings, and leave no mess.

()Kenizz had an awkward smile and half-squint face with one hand turned upward, the ring finger and pinky bent. The symbol for "What the Hell . . .?" is, evidently, literally universal.()

Yes. The black . . . and the blue.

Why . . .? How . . .?

Right?! I have no clue, but he figured it out, and he's the flan mutater.

I guess . . .

()He stared downward, trapped in his thoughts. Heh, a lot worse than he was trapped by Celle's devices, ey?! Eh? Okay, cheese aside, this was seriously a novelty to him.()

Re: Getting a start

Hmm . . . So, your priorities are durability, then maneuverability, then an incapacitating weapon system, in order of magnitude?

*~Celle put her model back into the recliner and leaned back in it, stroking her chin in thought.~*

()Kenizz replaced the thermos with another one, which contained minestrone soup. I wish that I could do that. I'm a lot hungrier than he is.()

And in the maneuverability department, you want reliability, speed, and efficiency.

He said earlier that he'd like a compact model, too.

Oh! I use a lot of belt-area objects, so I make sure that all of my models work with just the silos, but is a rear-mounted propulsion canister going to be an issue for you?

Re: Getting a start

*~The containment fields disbanded, and the plate segments fell to the ground in clusters of four.~*

This one's out of your price range. I've spent thousands on putting extra effects into the weaponry, and a culfruub crystal of this quality is not easy to come by, though it was necessary for the effects that I want. My main model is far superior, but-

Let's not get into that.

Right. By the way, those aren't just stabby traps; they go boom, too.

*~Celle looked at the plates on the ground, which then reformed and flew back to take their rightful places on the 3DMG.~*

But here's what I'm getting at: Of the features that you now know of, what do you prioritize the most? I know that you want it to be a long-term investment, so durability is key, but what I'm trying to get is how you want to budget your initial choices.

Re: Getting a start

*~She shook her head in response.~*

Nope. That little thing has enough for more than a year of use without getting recharged, and I get enough compatible charging styli for another year within a week just from monster drops. I just grab 'em, point, and click to refuel. Hehe. I'm a "can't have too many weapons" kind of girl, but yeah, control options are easy to add. Here, watch:

*~Celle easily peeled some of the square plates off the sides of the 3DMG, below which was another layer of the same. She fanned them out between Keyfie's and her face as though demonstrating a card trick, then threw them at Kenizz like shuriken.~*

()Kenizz let the plates stick into his skin and clothes. Barely bloody, he pulled a thermos of lemonade out of his shadow pocket and poured himself a cup.()

*~She then peeled some plates off the top and bottom and threw them one-by-one. As they were about to hit Kenizz, they broke apart into four segments apiece, which spread out and channeled what looked like white lightning in a ring. Each was a containment field. As the rings formed, they went in different directions: horizontal with the ring facing up and down, vertical with the ring facing sideways, vertically facing front and back, then the vertical diagonals, and finally the horizontal. Two more entered as horizontal rings that elevated and dropped, further trapping vertical mobility.~*

Oh, no. I am trapped physically, and her magic has disabled most or all of my methods of teleportation. My strength and magic are crippled. What ever shall I do?

()Kenizz lamented with so much sincerity. He took another sip of lemonade.()

And the neuro-

Yes, and the neuropulse disruption factor is addling my mind, impairing my capacity to think my way out of this and disrupting my concentration on my ongoing abilities! Oh, woe is me!

()Kenizz burped and asked,()

By the way, did Jayden get a hold of you?

Yup. Is something like that what you had in mind?

Re: Getting a start

Gotcha'. Mm-hmm. Mmm . . . I see. I take it that you're wanting a dependable, not disposable unit.

Maybe explaining that unit will help. It seems like he's kinda' overwhelmed, so going over some specifics could help his perspective.

I agree. Well, as you saw, I was propelled toward rings of non-elemental magic. When they are deployed, I choose whether they are visible or not. They immediately enact two forces; one pulls me, and the other stops me once I reach them. Therefore, even if someone does dispel them immediately, they still work. When they're just coming into existence, they have pretty strong anti-dispulsion protection, too, so it's incredibly difficult for someone to interrupt my decision as to whether or not I want the ring to exert another force to make me immediately bounce away after reaching a latch point.

*~Celle stood sideways and pointed at her left silo, which now featured a diagram on its side that showed its inner contents, making it effectively transparent. She pointed at the center, then from front to back as she explained,~*

Because this is all controlled by this pink-purple culfruub crystal in that steel mental modulator ring, there is plenty of room in the front for these backups: Those two little cannons shoot mentally controlled electromagnetism matrix generators, those two shoot magical magnet gems that do the same thing, but magically, that one shoots grenades, that one is for stun shots and neurotoxins, and that one shoots the rope. Those are the external feeds for the cannons- I can reach in and pull something to toss it manually, that way. -and the subspace storage access points are the rings at the back of them. Each subspace pocket holds at least ten times what you see here and a feeding machine, but I fight a couple that likes to shut down metadimensional storage, so you know. The openings at the front are enchanted to turn everything that passes through them invisible, which can be mentally toggled, of course. Then, there's all this space in the back for these extra tools and weapons on this rotating cylinder and my little robot helpers inside it. You with me so far?

*~She had whipped through the information so quickly that Keyfie would hardly have a chance to get a word in edgewise, but this, to her, was the best way to explain it in segments to answer questions before they came up.~*

Re: Getting a start

In short bursts, you're right.

We like to account for all sorts of situations in long-term usage, though. Eventually, you're going to want to be able to do this at will.

*~Celle reached back and pulled a 3DMG with a pink paint job and green, glowing runes all over from the back of her recliner. As she stood up, it become suddenly equipped to her. She didn't pull the triggers; those were for the gatling guns. She just started flying around the room, stopping just short of running into clearly fragile and/or noisy objects before darting to other points. Sometimes, she came to a full stop, and she sometimes seemed to just bounce along. The points that she was headed toward alternated between being marked with light purple, floating, vertical rings and having no visible tracers at all. Her speed was blinding; to an ordinary person, this would look more like some demonic spazz crap from a horror movie. She ended hovering above her starting point. I say "hovering," but "hanging" is more accurate; she was hanging upside-down by her right foot in the middle of a purple ring with her left leg tucked behind her. That ring was the only one that had persisted for more than a moment. Keyfie had just watched her zip around to 38 different points in the room in the span of about 8.1 seconds.~*

You said that you'll be using your energy for propulsion, too, so it makes sense to have a system that can make its own latch points if you can't. It may not sound like much of a concern where you're from, but plenty of attacks will damage your mana, chakra, and concentration directly; backups are never out of order, here.

Where did you say that he's from, again?

Not totally sure.

Re: Getting a start

Oh, you're fine, hun.

*~She had taken Keyfie's tone to be somewhat apologetic and perhaps frustrated.~*

So, you're looking to hookshot ((Yes, that's a regular phrase, here.)) condensed air with your model. I'm no wind mage, but isn't air condensation to that degree a bit strenuous?

()Taking a seat in the nearest recliner, Kenizz nodded and added,()

Unless you have an ability that makes you particularly adept at it, of course.

Well, yeah. Do you? Oh, right, feel free to take a seat wherever,

*~she permitted. In the blink of an eye, she had lept over to the back recliner. She reached down to its sides, from which she drew a screwdriver and what looked like a palm-sized, golden stopwatch.~*

Re: Getting a start

Humanoid . . .?

*~Celle glanced over at Kenizz warily.~*

()Kenizz shrugged nonchalantly.()

Must be a culture gap, 'cause he's clearly human. He's a hume.

Mm, okay.

He was asking about models that don't need to latch on to solid surfaces- He's a wind mage, so he asked about hooks that grab thickened air. -and particularly low encumbrance.

Convenience?

Learning curve shouldn't be a problem, and, well, wind mage.

Right.

Re: Getting a start

*~She tapped her lower lip thoughtfully.~*

As far as I'm concerned, the last model that was "standard" to people was the ethanol-freezing, granulated talon ooze with basalt mixture-projecting kind from a couple years ago. When you say, "standard," what are you looking for?
