Shifting Freedom

Post by Tori Keheraht » Thu Mar 24, 2011 10:16 am

Note that Tori's initial healing abilities apply 90% of their power to HE and 10% to tissue damage, even if a target is only hurt in HE, unless described elsewise. Unless otherwise stated, assume that all forms have the same capabilities as Tori's normal form. If a die roll determines an effect that occurs in response to an enemy's attack, the other person should roll during his/her post to determine what happens upon connection.
Formshift: This is a rare ability among laguz that allows them to transform at will into their animal forms and back. Tori was born with the skill, and it allowed her to take her heron form at will. Through training, she developed it to grant her the ability to transform into her crow and hawk forms, as well as her wolf form. She further developed it, allowing her to maintain wings while in wolf form, generate more techniques, and even create new forms.
Freeform Sensory- In all forms, Tori has the great smelling power of her wolf form, the peerless sight of her hawk form, hearing ability beyond the normal for any of her forms, and a powerful palette for taste. These go well with her heightened, animalistic instincts.
Freeform Omnivority- In all forms, Tori's teeth are harder and tougher than diamonds. Her digestive system is very complex and somewhat magical, so she can even eat rocks for negligible sustenance. Really, she does so just to be sure that her teeth stay sharp and clean, although that's never really going to be a problem for her.
Freewings- Tori can make her wings into whatever shape or size that she wants, and they will defy physics to maintain the same properties. The only rule is that they have to be feathered, and her wingspan, body excluded, can't exceed 30 meters ('cause she really needs that much).
Form Drive- When transforming her whole body, everyone and everything but Tori's changing body, including all attacks and stage movements, stops. Any momentum that she has when initiating this is stopped for the tiny moment in which she changes, as well. She can be falling very quickly, pause midair to transform, then revert to falling at the same speed as before the change. This allows her to change freely, and other abilities that activate upon transformation become autohits to those whom they can reach. However, the all-stopping trick only works once per 30 seconds, so further Formshifts have to go on the fly.
Shift Impact- When shifting forms, Tori can spend some mana for an outward burst of invisible, non-elemental magic. The attack is pretty much an autohit even without Form Drive, since it projects almost instantaneously, but it's not really strong for the mana that's spent. The mana that is spent is always a low amount (roughly 10 MP, in FF terms). The radius is 5 meters and subject to Level multipliers.
Lifeshift- When shifting forms, Tori can spend mana (anywhere from half that of Shift Drive to the same amount) to slightly heal herself. The healing isn't much for the mana, but this can be activated with Shift Impact. It can be easy to identify the usage of this ability because Tori glows green for about one second after transforming.
Shifting Equilibrium- While shifting forms, Tori's MS slightly increases so that she doesn't actually lose much focus at all on other things during transformation.

Alternate Forms:
Winged Wolf- While taking the form of a flying wolf, Tori can use "Howl," a magical howl that can immobilize a single target for 10 seconds. Unfortunately, Tori has to hold still to use it, and she has to pause for 9.75 seconds if it hits and for 1.25 seconds if it misses. It doesn't travel nearly as quickly as normal sound, and one can see the orb of flying, purple shockwaves flying toward them, usually right before getting hit. The target must be within 15 meters.

Heron- In this form, all Galdrar that Tori uses targets an area all around her immediate area, rather than a single person. Also, it grants Sky Boon, which allows Tori to grant a very small amount of healing (proportional to her MAG) to all allies that immediately surround her once per minute.
Hawk: In this form, the "Cancel" ability is granted. When Tori is physically struck, there is a 1/5 chance (dice roll: 5) that a sudden burst of wind will blow the foe back (no damage, high KB factor) to interrupt a potential combo. The "Shriek" ability is also present in this form. It causes Tori to relinquish an ear-piercing shriek when struck by a physical projectile that strongly disrupts MS.
Crow: The "Vortex" ability is granted, which allows Tori to cast a very weak, wind-elemental spell at a foe within 10 meters (subject to Level). Its cost is only a time limit: It can only be used once per 30 seconds that are spent as a crow, and it can't accumulate beyond one potential use. Transforming also negates accumulated time. The previously mentioned "Shriek" ability is also available in this form.
Gemini Peacock: When Tori turns herself into two fighters, her power splits. The two act as a unit and have one pool of each parameter. Each stat is half of the original. During cutscene attacks, they act as one unit. A dual existence has obvious advantages, but the disadvantage of being able to get hit twice by an area effect that would normally hit once puts those advantages at odds.
Gemini Peacock.jpg

Valor Scholar: This form is more magically acclimated. When in this form, Tori has access to leveled (those with -ras on up) Black Magic and White Magic equal to whatever levels of them she is capable of + 1. In other words, she can cast the standard BLM (the six elemental spells) and WTM (Heal, Cure, Mend, Medicate, and Light) spells right now, and, if she learns one spell for use in other forms, she'll be able to cast the FeySpell or Spellra version of it in this form. She also can use Study, a limited-range skill with no cost and a reliable scanning effect (good for elemental weaknesses, parameters, and some generic info). The downside is that Tori can only use this form for 5 minutes out of every hour, and the available time can't accumulate beyond 10 minutes. Aside from that, her HE constantly drops (rather slowly, but it drops) in this form, as does her PS. In this form, Egg Grenades are unavailable. Giant Peck, Talon Snatch, and Woodpecker are disabled. This form can't wield the Voukxoh Hasta, Bloodroost, or Winghammer, but does come with a book of 500 blank pages every time that Tori takes this form (The books can't be kept; they only exist for this purpose.) for her Papermastery.

Wisdom Harpy: This is a more physically adept, defensive form. It has the same time limits as Valor Scholar form. This form primarily uses talon strikes for physical attacks, but it can also use that big scepter to draw blue circles on the ground that act as traps. Up to seven can be active at once. They each have a diameter of one meter. When an enemy steps onto a circle or Tori wills it, a circle can detonate in a feathery explosion that acts as a metaphysical attack that factors Tori's STR against an enemy's DEF. In this form, Egg Grenades are unavailable. Bad Bird, Featherbomb, and Feathermend are disabled.

Aviation: As expected, Tori is an aerial combatant above all else.
Aerial Ace- Tori's chakra can be spent to control the minds and bodies of fliers. Since birds aren't usually smart, and since this is such an efficient ability, she can normally control flocks of ordinary birds with relative ease. Once put under her control, chakra expenditure is replaced by tiny bits of physical stamina expenditure. Controlling a bunch of birds for too long will tire Tori out. However, when a flier is under Tori's control, it is immune to other chakra-based control factors and psychic control. It only works on flying targets, including dragons, though she almost never has enough chakra to take any sort of dragon over, but it works well. For currently unknown reasons, her ability is drastically reduced for others' allies, so she can still restrain them somewhat, but can't just completely control them, and this has almost no effect on other characters, even if they have low MS.
Aviary Armor- When a flier is under Tori's control, it gets a little bit of armor. The armor's DEF and RES additions work across the whole body, but the increases are equally insignificant. The armor can't be removed from the avian, and it disappears once Tori no longer controls the subject.
Aviary Armor.jpg

Aviary Breath- Tori has found that she can hold her breath for a couple days at a time, but she doesn't really have to. When in the air, regardless of the altitude, the air that is immediately around Tori is condensed at no cost to be as thick as it is at sea level, and she thereby uses the same PS expenditure at all heights.
Bad Bird- Tori can use a little mana for a weak, but fairly fast, bird-shaped attack. A bolt of dark red, non-elemental, robin-shaped magic flies into the target. It's a straight shot. It's easy to cast in rapid succession, so Tori can spam this for some easy magic shots.
Birdcall- Tori can summon ordinary birds that are almost useless in battle by calling out to them. Attempts to do so can be amplified by spending a little mana and/or chakra to extend her range (and appeal to them, if something is somehow reducing that from its normal magnitude) drastically.
Birdfoe- Against flying monsters (not other characters), Tori's physical attacks deal 1.5 times their normal damage.
Bladebirds- Tori can mentally call her Bladebirds into existence at will. Seven circular portals with shuriken-like designs appear around her, swivel around her (dealing minor, physical damage as though they are indeed edged to those whom are within the immediate area), then summon one bird each. These birds are constantly under Tori's control as though they are equipped with Wingrings, and they act like smart shuriken, finding enemies and slamming their edged bodies into foes until either they are killed or five minutes elapse. After they are used, they can not be summoned again for another hour. If used in Gemini Peacock form, the summoning circles will revolve around a point that is directly between the two.

Deadeye- Tori can see weak points in negative colors at will.
Egg Bomb- Once per day, Tori can grab an egg that must be at least twice the size of her fist and magically transform it into a bomb that detonates ten seconds after leaving Tori's grip or upon impact. The explosion's radius is 30 meters (variable by Level), and it has a high power factor, ignoring 1/5th of the target's DEF, but Egg Bombs can't be stored in the Feathered Headband or Tori's shoulder belt for Egg Grenades. The generation of Egg Grenades is an offshoot of this ability, and both can be used in one day.
Egg Bomb.jpg
Egg Bomb.jpg (1.45 KiB) Viewed 8075 times
Featherbomb- Tori can magically fuse a clump of her feathers into one arm-sized, black feather that flashes purple. It then hovers a couple inches over a target for three seconds (during which it matches the target's movements to always be above the target), then falls into the target to explode. The feather detonates immediately after dropping, and its explosion has a radius of 2 meters, so it's hard to dodge and fairly powerful. It is a magical attack. It can only be used once per minute, though.
Feather Coat- If Tori holds still for 5 seconds, she can cast this spell. Shining feathers suddenly envelop a target, and one of four effects resolve (die roll):
  1. Stab- The feathers thrust into the target for a little damage, then disappear.
  2. Protect- The feathers shine green, then disappear. For the next 35 seconds, the target is granted the "Protect" status, halving physical damage to the target.
  3. Shell- See Protect. The glow is orange, and the effect is on magical damage.
  4. Regen- See Protect. The glow is purple, and the effect causes the user to regenerate HE at a fair rate over time.
Feathermend- Aside from using feathers as simple bandages, Tori can use a healing version of Featherbomb once per two minutes. 3/4ths of this ability's magnitude is applied to tissue damage, while the other quarter is applied to HE.
Final Flight- When reduced to critical health (<10% of her maximum HE or fatally wounded in tissue damage), Tori can fly/glide without spending PS, and she can do so at a very slightly increased speed.
Flock Head- Avians are naturally opposed to conflict with Tori as it is, but she has a magical effect that amplifies that a bit. Against those with any significant measure of MS, however, this will probably be completely useless.
Flutter Equivalence- When Tori is struck, no matter where the attack hits, the HE damage is the same.
Flutter Flourish- When attacking physically, Tori can molt some feathers to very slightly reduce the attack's power, but increase its KB factor. By the way, she grows feathers at an incredible rate, so she can pretty much use this with every attack, if she wants to.
Giant Peck- Headbutts from Tori have increased flinch factors and slightly disrupt MS.
Great Flap- With a large, slow flap of her wings, Tori can launch 100 sharp feathers, each with 1.5% of the strength of one of Tori's normal attacks. The feathers act as homing attacks (They're limited, but not limited enough for most.) that have slightly increased flinch factors. Tori can divvy the target designations up however she wants when launching this attack, so she can hit up to 100 enemies with this. It also comes with a burst of wind that makes it hard for others to attack Tori while she uses this. She can only use this once per three minutes, though, and can't use other attacks simultaneously.
Negative Glide- Strangely, when Tori tries to glide, she in stead plummets downward rapidly. This anomaly has only begun to occur recently, so she has no idea what is causing it, but it replaces a great way to get around easily with an effective movement canceling ability. In order to move upward, Tori has to flap her wings or jump each time, for now.
Nightingale- Tori summons a magical nightingale to cast a minor healing spell for a target's HE. Thanks to Tori's slight MAG advantage over Choh Lehko, this is slightly more effective than Choh's usage of the same jutsu, but it's still very limited, especially when one looks at how low Tori's CH is.
Phoenix Summon- Tori can summon Xoedaaf in a cutscene (time stops for everything else) by spending just a little mana.
Phoenix Summon.jpg
Phoenix Summon.jpg (161.8 KiB) Viewed 8075 times
Purefeather- With a brush of five glowing feathers, Tori can dispel many secondary effects, positive or negative, from a target. This will remove benefits such as "Protect" along with detriments such as poisons and temporary blindness.
Resonance Screech- Tori relinquishes a screech that causes all who are within a 15-meter radius to be dispelled of beneficial effects (such as "Protect," "Float," and "Regen," but also "Stop"). Tori's version noticeably disrupts MS.
Savior- When Tori is carrying someone else when in a laguz animal form (wolf, heron, hawk, or crow), her battle capabilities are unaffected, as she is undaunted in attacks and loses no speed.
Sonic Wings- Tori can concentrate for two seconds, then flap her wings to unleash a metaphysical sound burst (It travels much more slowly than normal sound, but still fairly quickly.) that deals slightly increased physical damage with a noticeably increased flinch factor and slightly increased KB factor. It also slightly disrupts MS more than normal attacks. If it somehow manages to strike multiple targets, there is no split damage or waterfall damage property.
Talon Snatch- When Tori attacks physically, she can reduce the damage dealt to captivate an enemy in her grip. If captivated by this method, an enemy is unable to damage Tori directly, including via magic, and is incapable of altering her flight path, but is released after 3 seconds and can't be damaged by Tori during this time.
Under Safe Wings- When Tori is carrying someone else when in a laguz animal form, the subject's DEF and RES slightly increase.
Wind Control- Tori has standard wind manipulation. It relies on her MA and/or CH, though, so you won't see her use it much.
Wingbeater- Fliers with less health are more easily taken over by Aerial Ace. The difference is based on proportional loss, so a dragon that has been fought for days on end and has lost tons of health is not affected by this any more than a bird with a gash.
Woodpecker- When performing a physical attack, Tori can in stead perform five successive attacks at 1/5th of their original power, three times the original attack speed for the first strike, and five times the original attack speed of the successive attacks. Each is considered to be a normal, physical attack.

Galdrar: Tori, being part heron, is capable of these magical songs.
Galdr of Valor- After a quick tune, a targeted laguz within the user's immediate area is filled with animalistic energy, allowing the unit to transform immediately.

Papermastery: Tori has found that, ever since she was a child, she could manipulate paper as edged weapons. When under her control, paper becomes hardier to attacks, resistant to all elements (halved damage to paper from all, including fire), stronger (using an average of her STR and MAG minus her maximum CH for a total of a two-asterisk stat utilization, as of yet), able to fly and bend freely, and immune to creasing. Finally, she can sacrifice some paper along with a little extra cost to cause pages to spontaneously explode. Using Papermastery is significantly taxing on Tori's MS and slightly taxing on her HE, oddly. Details of how this all works are a mystery to Tori, presently.

Slight edits were made, varying from a couple typos to a down-tonage of Woodpecker and an additional note about Bad Bird.
