Feathered Friends

Other than pokémon, pikmin, and chao, all of your little pets, summons, tag-along friends, comrades that fight alongside you, and the like are to be listed here, if you have any. If you do have any, they will have to be approved before they can be used in Houcm. Remember to read the Guide to Allies, since they are a part of your character.

******* = average for an ally

Nadia Mijas (na-di-ə mi-jəs): Tori's best friend has a couple of abilities that make her a cool tag-along, but not much else. She's basically just around to spread some music, as of yet.

Her stats fall short of the average ally, as do her abilities. In fact, her stats don't much matter at all. She doesn't yet have any practical abilities. She can only do the following:
BGM Change- By spending some of her "Rhythm Phrase" energy (very little, given her MAG, though a bit more than what one would expect), she can make a song of her choice play throughout an area in a 50-mile (to be multiplied by Levels) radius around her. The effect lasts for 4 (also subject to Level) verses of the song. Aside from aesthetic value, though, this does nothing.
Musicube- When using BGM Change, Nadia can spend a little more Rhythm Phrase to coalesce the chosen song into a material cube. These cubes have little function: They can contain the effects, thereby letting Nadia spend energy immediately to change the music later; she can let the cubes reform into their musical energy forms at any moment to let the effects "detonate." These Musicubes hover around Nadia magically unless physically moved elsewise and can move into the path of enemy projectiles of all kinds to attempt to block them, regardless of size. Unfortunately, their blocking power is dependent on Nadia's RES, so many projectiles can still easily one-shot her. Only one cube at a time attempts a block per attack, too. If she has four cubes, they can try to block four attacks at once, but all four can't unite to block one attack.
Fleeting Sound- Nadia can mentally or verbally command her pet bird, Uxuilda (əx-wiyl-də), to transport small, lightweight objects, mainly Musicubes, around. Note that Uxuilda is like most birds, but strong enough to carry quite a few objects, capable of flight speeds as high as 120 mph, and incredibly high in physical stamina.
Beat Perpetuation- In accordance to the beat of a song, Nadia's Rhythm Phrase accumulates. Although the energy accumulates in different intervals by the beat, each song results in the same gain over time. If one song has 15 beats in the time that another has 4, each of those 4 beats yields 15/4 times the energy as one of the previous song. However, over the four verses that they play, even most of the longer songs don't yield the tiny measure of Rhythm Phrase that Nadia has to spend for them, which would lead one to believe that Nadia prefers situations in which music is already playing, such as at a pub with a jukebox. This is not so. The other factor of the energy-beat's perpetuation is the following: Nadia's Rhythm Phrase continues to accumulate in accordance with the most recent beat after the end of a song. If a song plays in 4/4 time and ends, Nadia continues to build Rhythm Phrase up in accordance to its beat until another song starts.
Flutter Coat- Nadia's coat can compact itself extradimensionally into its ribbon. Nadia often finds it fashionable to tuck the ribbon away when she is not wearing the coat. When she wears the coat, it hinders her running speed a bit, but also barely improves her jumping height, slightly slows her descent, and allows her to double-jump. Another function is to keep Nadia warm, and it magically manipulates thermal energy in a very limited manner to be quite good at that task, though she'll still get very cold in tundras and the like. Its main function is its dimensionally fluctuating bond to Tori, which allows Nadia to fly through reality to her friend in the form of an illusory Musicube.

Glyphus (glī-fəs): One of Tori's pet birds (Ignore the purple tiger.) is mainly used for transportation and rescues. Unfortunately, that's about all that it's good for, most of the time.

Glyphus technically has a mind, but it's barely over that of normal birds. Its movement is entirely controlled by the will of its glyph-bound mistress, Tori. Its abilities don't activate by anyone's volition, but automatically when given certain conditions. Basically, its puny mind is never used.
Glyph Dimension- When no one is on its back, Glyphus enters its own Glyph Dimension. Its body in this dimension becomes an invisible, intangible glyph. If it could be seen, it would appear as the second of the above pictures for Glyphus. If only inanimate objects are on its back, Glyphus will enter this dimension, and the stuff will be transported with the bird. It only leaves this dimension when Tori or some ally (at Tori's consent) is within 7 meters of its back. If it enters Seinvocc and isn't mounted within three seconds, it immediately reverts and does not attempt to come back until either the object that triggered its appearance is about to land on it or another object appears to be caught. Basically, unless it is carrying someone, Glyphus doesn't really exist. When in the Glyph Dimension, Glyphus' physical stamina and health energy steadily regenerate, which is a must, since it doesn't eat or drink anything and can't sleep.
Glyph Lift- Any living creatures on the back of Glyphus and anything that is being carried by Tori (because she's the glyphmistress for Glyphus) is weightless to Glyphus and thereby does not hinder its flight speed. Also, as long as the total weight of inanimate objects on Glyphus' back is less than the maximum that Glyphus would be able to normally carry, they are weightless to Glyphus. In other words, as long as the lifeless objects on its back don't total to be too heavy for Glyphus' strength, it can fly at top speed, and that also helps its physical stamina.
Docile- Even when it's here, Glyphus can't attack: It is too stoic to pay attention to the would-be instinctual command to peck at foes, and commands from Tori to do so are not recognized. Its strength exists only for carrying.
Sand Evolution- Glyphus can evolve into a legendary Sand Bird temporarily, given the proper preparation. The proper preparation is a pain. Tori must ride Glyphus over a beach, desert, or other sandy area. She must then ride Glyphus into a high-speed dive straight into the sand. Tori can pull herself and her stuff out of the sand immediately afterward and leave Glyphus to just lie there, buried. This is the only way that Glyphus can exist in this dimension without being ridden. Glyphus must incubate in the sand for a full week, after which the Sand Bird will rise. For exactly one day and night, the bird that is made of regenerating sand blocks will fly Tori wherever she wants to go. Glyphus' physical stamina reverts to its normal maximum when the Sand Bird dissolves into its normal form. Tori can mentally command the Sand Bird to drop magical sand as it flies. The sand serves to magically blind and inflict drowsiness on those whom it comes into contact with. Initial contact inflicts almost no effect, but extended exposure can eventually lead to complete blindness and deep slumber. The effects wear off after one hour of no exposure to the bird sand or until the Sand Bird devolves (whichever comes first).

Zurakuk (zu-rə-kuk): Tori's pet habitat bird serves pretty much exclusively as a habitat, as one may expect. Habitat birds have incredible instincts for finding areas that are safe and open enough to roost. They fly at speeds that normally exceed 250 mph, but only for a little more than an hour, after which they have to rest for almost six hours. They are known to roost in such a folded manner as to serve as excellent resting quarters for up to three normal-sized people in relatively good comfort. Habitat birds are oddly resilient to attacks and very healthy. Because they spend most of their time flying around to hunt smaller, slower birds and find roosting places, habitat birds are not effective participants in battle, both due to lack of training availability and lack of actual activity availability. It doesn't help that their size renders them as predictable fliers to react to, despite their speeds. They lay one fairly large egg per day, and hatched eggs result in somewhat plump chicks. The chicks are carried around by their mothers (Yes, they keep migrating when they have chicks.) for about three months, after which the chicks look more like smaller versions of their parents and develop flight capabilities very quickly. Tori owns two habitat birds: One is Zurakuk, her 2-year-old pet (They have life expectancies that exceed 13 years, but the latter 11.4 or so years show almost no bodily change, so Zurakuk is considered to be an adult.), and the other is its newborn chick, which has yet to be named. Also, Zurakuk has a large carrying case that is hung from its neck, so she can be used to deliver objects.

Xoedaaf (xo-ɛ-dɒf): The first of Tori's allies that is truly helpful in battle is her pet phoenix. Tori knows that Xoedaaf has a secret that makes him a particularly special phoenix, but it hasn't yet happened, so it'll stay a secret, for now. Note that Xoedaaf's attacks sound like they could hurt pretty badly if they hit, but they are on an ally scale; they don't hurt so badly, and they're easy enough to dodge, most of the time. Also, Tori can not be hurt by Xoedaaf's flames.

2.25 damage from water and ice attacks; absorption to fire attacks
All of Xoedaaf's attacks have magic that applies the full force of any attack to any contact point. Simply said, if you're hit at all, you're hit at full power.
Fireorb- By inhaling for five seconds, Xoedaaf can launch a powerful orb of magical fire that explodes upon contact or half-meter proximity.
Flametongue- Xoedaaf can exhale a stream of magical flames for one second for each three seconds that he spends inhaling prior to the attack. Xoedaaf has incredible lungs and can inhale for up to fifteen seconds for a five-second stream of fire. Each second of this attack results in 3/5ths the damage of the Fireorb, so both attacks are equally powerful.
Singeflap- Xoedaaf must build-up its fire energy for 35 seconds, half a Houcm minute, before launching this. With a flap of his wings, Xoedaaf can launch a large (varies by MAG; approx. 20 meters wide and 15 meters high) wave of magical fire. It's about twice as strong as a Fireorb.
Overburn- Xoedaaf and Tori launch into a powerful combo, during which all others in a battle are disabled and immobilized, making all of its parts autohits. Overburn is only available once per five minutes, and each use costs half of Xoedaaf's maximum HE. If Tori attempts to initiate Overburn when Xoedaaf has less than half of his HE, the command will be ignored. If Xoedaaf has exactly half his HE when Overburn is used, Burnout will be inaccessible. Enemy defenses and resistances are ignored completely, but the attacks don't have very high power factors, anyway, so they're likely to deal fairly normal damage in many cases. Riding her phoenix, Tori has 15 seconds to delegate the following commands as she pleases (Their time consumptions vary directly with their power factors, except for the finisher, which is about 7/5ths as powerful as Eruption.):
  • Burnthrough- In a burning spiral, charge at and slam into a target for a fire-elemental, metaphysical attack (physical damage, but dependent on Xoedaaf's MAG, like all other attacks). time consumed: 3 seconds
  • Sear- Summon two geysers of fire at a target's sides. They coalesce into fireballs that then slam into the target, usually at diagonally downward angles, for fire-elemental, magical damage. time consumed: 1 second
  • Eruption- Make the area that is directly below a target, even if midair, become a small volcano for a moment. It erupts into them for fire-elemental, magical damage. time consumed: 5 seconds
  • Featherbullets- Launch 25 burning feathers from outstretched wings. When launching them, multiple targets can be delegated, and feathers can be divvied as Tori sees fit. Each strike is a fire-elemental, metaphysical attack. time consumed: 2 seconds
  • Finisher: Burnout (cutscene attack)- Soar into the stratosphere. Turn and spiral dive at an incredible speed, then burn-phase through the ground or other surface on which you are fighting. As you store heat up, a fire tornado collects enemies to the point above you with incredibly small, fire-elemental, magical damage. The draw-in effect is huge, though. After a couple seconds, burst up out of the ground as a blazing scourge, then explode massively (200-meter radius), scorching and scathing all foes. Xoedaaf is knocked-out after Burnout is used, regardless of previous health. time consumed: all remaining
Group Judgement- When Xoedaaf strikes multiple targets with a single attack, the damage is always spread evenly, even if they are not struck simultaneously. (If target 1 has high RES and target 2 has lower RES, target 1 will take a bit less damage than what would be expected, while target 2 will take a bit more.)
Ecosytematic Will- When Xoedaaf attacks, land is not damaged unless that was the given command. This allows Xoedaaf to fight in a forest or some fields safely.
Bloodboil- Xoedaaf is immune to many foreign pathogens and some other effects, as his whole body, especially his blood, scorches everything that tries to enter.
Auto-Life- The first time (only the first) in a battle that Xoedaaf is knocked out, he revives with 1/2 of his maximum HE. Unfortunately, his DEF is too low, and his HE is the average for an ally, so this often means that he can get up just in time to get one-shot.

This is the first character I've read that uses allies. I'm intrigued at the concept.

In proofreading my allies list, I realized that I forgot to list two things about Xoedaaf: All of his attacks have magic that applies the full force of any attack to any contact point. Simply said, if you're hit at all, you're hit at full power. Second, I forgot to specify the size of the flame wave beyond just "large." I added the parenthetical note, "(varies by MAG; approx. 20 meters wide and 15 meters high)".

Crevasseus already read this and approves the edits, so I'm leaving this in approval.
