This thread exists to share pictures that can be used for characters (including alternate outfits, allies, et cetera). Why? I have several hundreds, which is a lot more than I'll ever use alone, and many of them come from a site that has a lot of images that can't be found anywhere else. I'm also sure that I'm not the only one who's seen a good pic and thought, "That's not really my style, but I can see how that could be used." I'm not the only one who's gotten ideas that could be put to use from a picture, but hasn't felt like putting them to use personally. Well, why not shoot those pics over here for those whom are having trouble finding the pics that're right for them?
Rules/Specs:
- Especially with bigger pics, it would be appreciated if you included a spoiler tag to keep things condensed.
- Ecchi/questionable pics are fine, but hentai/explicit pics should be either edited before posting here or sent in a PM to a friend or admin who can edit the pic for you. Be warned that my editing skills are very limited, hence my requests for others to edit pics for me over in Artisan's Alley.
- If the owner of a designated picture requires credit to be given to him/her, please either state the source with the picture outside or inside the spoiler tag explicitly or hotlink the picture from a cited source such as DeviantArt, where one can readily see who uploaded the pic. Plenty of artists find it to be acceptable to simply leave their names in the file names of their works. In any case, if someone requests credit, please grant it.
- Hotlinks will work, but the reliability of attached files is more appreciated. If a hotlinked image dies, please alert the poster of that image so that (s)he can either relocate the pic and update the hotlink or remove it altogether. Links to other sites with useful pics are acceptable, but one should not use only links and should post individual pictures.
- Feel free to comment on any pics that you see or post, especially if such commentary includes ideas that come to you when you view that pic! The only human thing that's more creative than our individual minds is our collaborative minds, so feel free to let the thoughts fly! Just don't spam the threads up with commentary. If you're going to comment on pics, at least do so on several pics per post, and I should hope that you'd also include a pic that you found within the same post. Just use some moderation.
- These reference pictures will be categorized by "Chars" (for characters, alternate outfits, allies, and so on), "Stuff" (for anything that would represent an inventory or ability item, et cetera; interesting stuff, not generic hammers and swords), "Charstuff" (can easily be used either for the stuff that is displayed or the character while using said stuff/accompanied by the depicted creature/whatever), "Creatures" (obviously for non-human beings, which can possibly be characters, allies, enemies, and more), and "Places" (as one may expect, for pics of fantastic locations). If you are unsure which category your pic(s) fall(s) into, feel free to ask. If, however, you post something in the wrong category, it's not a problem: I'll simply let you know why it would fit better elsewhere and move it for you, so you don't have to worry about it. Some pictures don't accurately fit into any single category, but we'll have another thread just for those.
- If you have a lot of pics, try to post them over several posts. No one wants to sit here and load a full gigabyte of pictures to see one page, so it's helpful to splay them across the pages of this thread. That will allow us to load only so much at a time. I may make a thread for pics that are composed of a lot of data for those who are on computers and internet connections that can handle them. Please try to keep the total data of attached files in one post of this thread below 10-20 MB.
- Be reasonable with your picture claims. If you see a pic that you can use, go ahead and say so, and no one else will use it. However, if you drop off the face of the planet for a couple months after that, don't be surprised if your claim is voided and someone else claims the pic for their usage. Keep in mind the differences of generic usage and significant usage: Let's say that you're some manner of dragon master. When you see a pic of an interesting dragon, you want to use it as one of the dragons that you can control. However, among the 20 pictures that you just claimed, there are three that others wish to use. Those three pictures are selected by a person(s) who wish(es) to use them as major character elements, such as allies, forms, or abilities. You should be mature and realize that their ideas take priority; you stick with the dragon pics that no one else wants to use, and let others use the pics that they want. If two or more users claim a picture on an equivalent level, the conflict can be resolved as such: All claiming users will write their desired uses for the picture(s) up, then each dissertation will be evaluated by Seinvocc members (not just the mods and admins, though you can count on us to participate) to determine which is the more/most creative, interesting, and well-planned. The victor will keep his/her claim, and the loser will be expected to be a good sport and find something else to use. I expect almost no joint claim issues like this, but the process exists just so that we can handle things smoothly should the need arise.
- Significant (signi): You intend to use this as a major element of your char creation and/or storyline. This is going to be used as your character avatar, alternate form, important aspect of an ability(ies) or inventory item(s), ally, rival, or something else of noteworthy significance. For instance, someone who is making a musical character that wields brass instruments as weapons would be delighted to find a good picture of a trumpet-gun and a french horn-hammer, especially if the picture shows a character that looks like what the user is looking for.
- Generic (gener): You intend to use this along with others that resemble it for an aspect. For instance, Tori Keheraht can control flying creatures, but she won't put a significant claim on them all. If she sees some pretty birds that she'd like to see and control, she can place a generic claim, but, if someone else wants those same pics for major character elements, she's not really missing out on anything to give them up. Notice that the Dragon RP thread serves as another example of this.
- Enemy: You would like to fight or otherwise conflict with a character that this pic represents, developing an interesting storyline aspect. This can be, but does not necessarily have to be, classified as a gener enemy claim ("This dude looks like he'd be fun to fight as my char. He just looks like a fun fight, although not one that I'd like to be on his controller's side of.") or a signi enemy claim ("Ooh, I want that weapon . . . Hey, that character looks cool, too. It looks like it'd be a lot of fun to fight with and against that. I already have plans made to really improve my character off this! I gotta' fight this chick."), so you can state "gener enemy" or "signi enemy" to signify this. On that note, if you have character design ideas for someone that you want to face as an enemy, feel free to include these notes in your claim, but understand that whoever ends up controlling the char in question will understandably take at least a little creative liberty.
