Re: Setting Up Shop
‾▿‾Tori transformed back to normal and held Crevasseus on her shoulders.‾▿‾
That bothered it, but I think that we need more strategy to actually take it down. Maybe we'll have a real opening if we are able to smash all its tentacles at once, starting with the weak spots near the tips!
‾▿‾She changed back immediately to alleviate the energy expenditure. She just had to spout out her observations as soon as possible. Seeing the oncoming tentacles and lazers, hawk Tori curved upward and back toward the island.‾▿‾

Taking out another explosive arrow Crevasseus smiled.
"A well placed explosive may help. If we can trap some of those tentacles together, maybe we can blow them clean off! drop me off here and see what you can do. I'll provide the explosion."

_The creature didn't appear to be doing anything in particular, but it was doing that whole not-inhaling thing underwater._

‾▿‾Tori had to switch back to converse again.‾▿‾
Right. I'll just drop you off up here in the sky. Listen: Your plans aren't going so well. You seem to put too much confidence in just one or a couple attacks. I'm going to put you back on the island so that we can get some real combat going.
‾▿‾Tori hated to waste time and stay still for so long, but she knew that they needed better coordination. She shifted to her crow form, dove to the island, and deposited her cargo before perching on the tree, waiting for the monster to come closer again.‾▿‾

Crevasseus moves into the trees and uses chameleon charging up Ethereadraw.
_The foe stopped not-inhaling, but this attack wasn't a mazer. It moved its mouth out of the water to point it upward and at the humans. From its mouth, it sprayed ink. Here's the trippy part, though: Rather than just being a splotch that flew through the air, the ink was sprayed out as a jet that exploded into what looked like raining ink, but in slow motion. In fact, droplets of ink were hovering into various positions, almost like a minefield in the air all over the island, some distance behind it, and much more in the direction of the monster. At this point, the persistent creature advanced toward the island again._

‾▿‾Tori wanted to wait as a crow to perform a free Vortex spell, but the opportunity to potentially hit that internal weak point and see what would occur was more important. Knowing one's foe is, after all, an essential ingredient of strategic combat. She changed back to normal.‾▿‾
Hey, toss up one of those explosive arrows!
((See, because it elicits a response from another unit, this is one of those posts that occurs in far less time. In your next post, you may continue to act in the given time independently, but your response will allow Tori to execute another action in the allotted time, thus giving me a legitimate reason to break posting order and go before the next Standard Foes post. Thus, even though Tori will have two posts before Standard Foes, she will still be acting within the allotted time, the estimated seven seconds.))

((groovy. I will keep that in mind))
Crevasseus tosses one up as his bow lifted into the air. He pulls out three supersonic arrows and lets them float to the bow. he moves, very slightly in the opposite direction of the arrows.

‾▿‾Tori swoops down, grabs the arrow, and charges straight at the creature's open mouth. About halfway there, with the ink rain attack going off, she uses some chakra to control the wind that is above her to swirl upward, hopefully keeping her from taking a hit on the way in case it's acidic. She gets right up to the mouth before it closes or sinks, aims straight for the internal weak spot, throws the arrow in, and bolts back. On the way back, she doesn't use wind to protect herself, wanting to check what the ink does to her while she looks back to see how the monster takes the explosion. In case it would disrupt local ink droplets, though, she used Shift Impact while switching back to being a crow.‾▿‾
_The wind did keep the ink away, but nothing happened with the Shift Impact. However, the explosion was evidently pretty successful. The monster grunted loudly and flailed about angrily. Tori's Deadeye ability would show that the small, internal weak point appeared to be dented by the blast. The foe sunk its mouth again, but brought its head from the back up into the air. From its top, a purple bolt quickly shot forth, but wasn't aimed at anyone. It hit an inkdrop, turned black and thicker, ricocheted to another ink droplet and pulsated, ricocheted to yet another, pulsated again, and then shot straight into Tori's back from there at point-blank range. It was a slightly strong, dark-elemental, magical attack. Still recoiling from the previous attack, the enemy paused as though to lick its wounds._

‾▿‾That dark bolt hurt, but Shell was still active, so it wasn't all bad. On her way back to the island, rather than flying out of the tentacles' reach, she went straight for them and performed a flyby sweep of them: She went for a sharp wing cut to each weak spot. After that, she went back to stand underneath the trees. She gave up on going for another Vortex, since communication was too important with a blind ally. She shifted back.‾▿‾
The explosion helped! Maybe hurting the tentacles enough will lure it into using its mouth more. The ink droplets that are hanging in the air are there so that the dark bolts that it shoots from its head can ricochet around and hit us more easily.

Crevasseus listens intently trying to hear where the sound of an explosion may come from. Upon hearing the noise Crevasseus smiles to himself.

_After its brief pause, the foe shot another bolt from its head. It bounced off five ink droplets on its way to the beach, whereupon it was aimed at Crevasseus' right side, just around the tree. On the fifth ricochet, the dark pulse that it underwent gave off a small, circular wave of light that dissipated after traveling outward just a couple inches, and there was a whooshing, "Pshuooo," sound effect to accompany it. Notably, the shot then appeared to be bigger, but moved more slowly after that. After firing this shot, the creature swept its tentacles along the beach in a clapping motion, nine from either side and one overhead, to try to trap Tori into a good smacking._
_At this point, some seagulls entered the scene, just passing by on their way northward._

‾▿‾Taking that fifth pulse as a sign that the shot would be more dangerous, Tori acted quickly to warn her ally.‾▿‾
Turn to your left to stand sideways and press your left side up against the tree!
‾▿‾The shot wasn't going for a big opening, so the instructed motion should just barely put him out of the trajectory, she hoped. Seeing the tentacle sweeps, she knew that she was fast enough to get out diagonally, but she also saw an opening with which to hurt the tentacles all at once. She flew forward, slightly to her right, and slightly upward, putting her just out of the attack paths diagonally and closer to the opponent's head, whereupon she hovered and drew a commonplace notebook from the back of her top. The two hundred pages flew from the covers and into the sweeping tentacles, scraping their ways up the tentacle sides to then act like a vertically spinning saw blade up near the tips, focused primarily on the weak points.‾▿‾

The spell was cast without issue but Crevasseus wasn't sure if it made it to Tori. He drew The Scorpion's Tail from it's sheath. Crevasseus, hearing the urgency in Tori's voice, did as instructed sucking in his slight gut as well.
