Getting a start
Re: Getting a start
That depends on what model you get.

"Well, how about for most basic models so I have an average understanding of what to expect and come to a decision of what type of modifications I would like to make." Keyfie explains as he looks at the wares.
How basic do you want it? Basic as in older model with few additions or basic as in easier to use?

"As if someone got one as stock only."
I don't get what you mean.

Keyfie thinks for a little bit before answering. "I mean, what would the basic gear specs be of a gear that someone would get of the original model."
The original model? Well, I think that it was stainless steel, but lighter. I believe that it was one spell to reduce its weight, but reduce its durability, then another to adjust the durability back up.
That sounds right. Also, do you have any Aero Firma tee-shirts?
Same shipment as the Rare Tuner 4,000s.
Shit.
Anyway, there was just one grappling hook in each silo, and the air canteen thing operated with a simple fan system. I can't remember whether it was a two- or three-fan matrix. The grappling hooks' ropes were retracted by a single axle-and-pulley system, I'm pretty sure, within the silos. Also, the silos only had slots for one-handed, somewhat flat weapons, like swords, and the grappling hooks were deployed by finger trigger. I think that the triggers were on the silos, too.
I think that it was a two-fan system.
I'm inclined to say three, but maybe.

"What kind of material would be better for crafting the gear to improve its durability and keep it light? Also, my biggest concern is the trigger, axle, and fan set up. How could I improve them to increase its performance?" Keyfie says while counting off the different pieces on his fingers to himself.
There have been a bunch of improvements. It's common to use some kind of levistone to counter weight issues, though even the original and some heavier variants have been usably lightweight. Having a decent enchanter helps everything, of course. Mental triggers are popular with just about everything that can use them. The fans are often replaced by air gems. What else- Oh, the axle-and-pulley systems are often replaced with subspace inhale-exhale systems. You can have one built out of just about anything, though. What did you have in mind?

"Air gems?" Keyfie asks raising an eyebrow. "How do they work?"
Er, really?
Noooooooooooob.
Right. Well, it depends on the jewel, but pretty much any elemental stone can be used as an intake-output channel. Some take in their element from the surroundings or elsewhere at their own rate no matter what, some change their rates when immersed, some can be channeled into, some can be channeled into only in certain ways, like you can only channel the element itself, not just mana, chakra, or whatever else to fuel the magic, or you can only use mana, only use chakra . . . There's a stone for every limitation and every combination thereof.

"So, depending on the the type of stone, does the input-to-output ratio change?"
Yes, of course. Some seem to get a region's worth of their element out of nothing.

"Well, that would be nice. But I doubt I have the funds for something that efficient."
You don't.
