The local tavern-inn is a great meeting hall that takes a nice chunk of the village's east side up. To those who like or get used to the somewhat dank feel of the place, this is a second home, if not a first, replete with plenty of space, good food, good drinks, cozy rooms, and a village full of mostly kind people.

()The dark knight held the door open for his guest. Inside were the clan that is described in To New Beginnings, a couple of bangaa, a rava viera, two revgaji, a large troll, and three faeries. Greeting waves were exchanged.()

Um . . . First, no. There are 1,790 minutes in a day period. There are twelve hours of daylight, twelve hours of night, and a half-hour of twilight in between each per day period. We have a nearby planet, Guild World, that is often mistaken for a moon, and we have three moons. Two are only seen over the Chaos Beach and act with each other like our main moon and sun to perpetuate twilight there, and the main one is Dukaquani. It absorbs the rays of Ziguluja, our main sun, and teleport-shoots them all over Houcm and Guild World to sustain the time paradigm that I described. Dukaquani affects the tides, but Jek and Sidu, the sun-like moon and more normal moon over Chaos Beach, do not. The seasons fluctuate by a few days from year to year, but follow a pattern of the months of January, February, and March being spring, summer being in April, May, and June, autumn being in July, August, and September, and winter is in October, November, and December. Each month is sixty days and nights. Well, the lunabells fold up into buds and aren't very shiny in the day time. I'm not sure what qualifies as "different" to you, but I'm sure that we have more, yes. As a rule of thumb, we have more resources and variety in things than just about any dimension that we've heard of. If another dimension has something, we probably have it, too.

()He pulled out two seats two tables away from the aforementioned clan and took one.()

Keyfie takes his seat his eyes never leaving his host, nodding as he takes in the information he is given like a dried out sponge to an ocean. He sets his knapsack beside the chair and leans his swallow against the table, still within reach should the need arise. "Alright, what about the physics here? Like I mentioned before, I was in a scrape just outside of town by these creatures that fit the description of orcs from many fantasy stories on Earth. Some of the attacks I was doing seemed to have no real effect, no matter how fast I delivered them. It seemed I had to actually put in more effort than I'm used to to in order to just cause a slight bruise."

()Kenizz took another moment to read his sleeve.()

Hmm. From the sounds of it, you're from one of those dimensions in which force is exerted by mass multiplied by velocity, with faster attacks being always or usually better than slower, heavier hits. Here, force is applied in a manner that is decided by the kind of action that is being performed and the actor's ability to fluctuate along a spectrum of velocity and power. Applying the same amount of energy to an instance of a standard elemental manipulation, such as a water ball attack, most water mages can shoot a faster, weaker shot, a stronger, slower shot, or anywhere in between. You likely have this same influence over your own attacks, but instinctively prioritize speed due to the pertinence that you are used to. Am I right?

()He would have allowed Keyfie to interrupt earlier, but he kinda' felt like he was on a roll, to be honest.()

Keyfie blinks in momentary disbelief then shakes it of and smiles. It is a new dimension to me after all. Maybe magic isn't as rare here. "Well yeah . . . I'm an air manipulator. On Earth it was just so more energy convenient to send an object at high speed into an opponent than try to shred them with the air itself. I would like to be taught any tricks I could use to make it so I don't tire so easily." Keyfie then looks around the room looking to see if someone was coming to serve them.

Maybe reading some magical texts will help you. I don't think that there's much of a "trick" to managing your energy as much as it is understanding the principles and applying them situationally. It does help a lot to have a way to gauge enemies to know how tough they are so that you don't have to overdo it, though. I can tell that you're Level 1-capable, so, if you're as tired as you look and you just fought a few generic orcs, you probably got some overkill in that last battle, right?

()He started to wait for an answer, but then quickly added while it was on his mind,()

Oh, and do you know what you want to eat, right now?

Keyfie nods as he rubs the back of his neck. "Yes to both of those. The fight was taking forever, so I decided to pour almost all of my reserves into taking the last two orcs out. The result was a bit of orc everywhere. As for the magical texts, I would love to be able to look at some but I'm sure you have to wait in long lines just to read a couple a vague sentences. My goal right now is to learn as much as possible. Also, I would like to see what edible daily specials they have here"

"Antlion steaks and legs are on sale today, as well as water buffalo,"

the barkeep calls. It's the hawk laguz, the same one that was tending the bar a moment ago with Tori, Nadia, and Crevasseus.

The fight was taking forever? How many were there? Uh, no, magical texts are available like candy. Er, um . . . What's a phrase that conveys a common occurrence, to your people? Exactly what dimension are you from, anyway, stranger, and what's your name?

()Kenizz finally got around to asking.()

"Oh Forgive me, sometimes my thirst or information overrides my manners... You may call me Keyfie. I'm not sure as to what you would know it by, but we called the planet Earth with the single moon called Luna, located in the Sol system in the galaxy known as the Milky Way. So is there a school, or something of the like, I can attend in order to obtain this vast amount of magical lore or can i just go to a public library?" Keyfie replies before turning to the barkeep. "I'll take an order of antlion steak with a cool drink of water and maybe a nice salad?" Keyfie then turns to Kenizz.
"There was three of them, I was already pretty exhausted due to previous events. I just figured they would have been easier to take down than they actually were. By the way, what is your name?"

()The dark knight nods and gestures a passive wave.()

No big deal. I'm Kenizz. K-E-N-I-Z-Z, if your letters are similar enough to ours. Hmm. Yeah, both. The Shallows School is just on the other side of the village from this pub. The Xuten guild is the guild for fighters who prioritize the arcane to study magic, archeology, astronomy, theoretical metaphysics, and stuff like that, while they train and take Level Challenges. There aren't many public libraries, not of note, because we have one that's very comprehensive and well-defended, the Atypical Institution. I'm gonna' assume that your terms are similar enough to mine that I can describe it as a college, library, and tutoring hall all mixed into one, and you'll get the idea. Okay, your homeland description turns out a few results. Any way to narrow them down? Oh, it looks like they're all pretty similar. Let's see . . . Just three? Hah, yeah, you're new, all right. You'll have an easier time with most orcs once you're a little more familiar with controlling your wind magic to hit as hard as you need to hit.

"What kind of salad?"

The barkeep immediately gets to work on fetching the described grub.

"Well I've never had the pleasure of gracing my taste buds with antlion before, but I'm just thinking something popular with others like me." Keyfie answers to the barkeep.

"The Atypical institution? Any prerequisites in order to be enrolled? Also is there a cost for that information?" says Keyfie, as he looks back at Kenizz.

()Kenizz recoiled a bit and adjusted his eyebrows to indicate how silly he thought the question was. He then said something that was probably the most beautiful thing that Keyfie had heard in his life:()

Of course, not. Information is free, except for the time that it takes for you to soak it up.

"Oh, really?"

The barman points what looks like a sniper rifle scope at Keyfie, then drops it.

"A caesar salad with ghika lettuce and tomatoes, then."

Keyfie stares at the dark knight, eyes wide open with a slightly gaping mouth. There is no way information like that could be free . . . Could it? I mean, information is knowledge, knowledge is power, with power, one can shape history. "Where is the Atypical Institution located? I would very much like to go there to sell out this limitless source of information. Also I do believe I may need to get some new gear. I have some ideas of what I may want and was wondering if you might know a decent metal worker who also an exceptional mechanical genius."

"Steak's almost done. We fix 'em medium-rare unless you request otherwise, and my scope told me that it'd be fine with you. If that's wrong, now's the time to correct it."

The barman delivers the salad and a tall glass of water, what looks to be about 40 fluid ounces, already. He includes three packets each of malt, apple cider, and white vinegar, labeled clearly in English, or at least apparently English. The salad is freshly tossed and dressed, should Keyfie be able to tell, but they work quickly, here. Upon tasting, it proves to be made from fresh, organic, juicy ingredients, with high-quality dressing. Uh, we're not going to have a Vanamonde von Mekkhan "perfect coffee" moment, are we? Man, we're hitting all the GG references, tonight . . . Oh, right, fourth wall.

()The dark knight glanced at the salad and stated,()

I think that I'll have one of those, too. Miss Ghika grows such good tomatoes and lettuce. The Atypical Institution is far south. You cross the Abyssal Sea, walk across the Chaos Beach, probably get lost in the Mythic Thicket, eventually find your way south of the Mythic Thicket, cross the Crash Pastures heading southwest, and take the obvious trail through the mountain range there. The mountains and the trail are called Academy Path, and there are signs, so it's pretty hard to shit up.

()He leaned back and stretched, then added,()

Uh, that's "mess up," "screw up," or whatever your equivalent colloquialism for "make a mistake" is. The point is that, unless you're not really confident in your mind, you don't need me to draw you a map.

()He was still pretty new to working with n00bs, but he was smart enough to catch on to some common confusions.()

Smiling at barkeep, Keyfie nods in approval. "That's how I cook my meat over a campfire when I just hunted.". Keyfie returns his gaze to Kenizz. "Well, that does seem quite the distance. I really have no way of knowing what I am going to run in to on the road. I think I may need to invest in something that will help me travel, yet be practical for me in a fight. Something that has with no to little draw on my own power so I'm not useless if I've been using it all day. Also I may need to think about hiring a guide or something to make sure I don't get lost. Suggestions?"

"No problem, and very true, Kenizz. With the current special, your total comes to five dollars, sir."

The barman stands patiently with his hand outstretched.

So you're thinking about a vehicle and an escort, huh? Like I said, you have three hundred dollars- two ninety-five, actually, for sure, so you could afford a small craft and maybe a cheap merc, but you may want to manage your money a bit better. Dunno' how much food you have on you and how confident you are in hunting, but having some coin on you is only sometimes a bad idea.

()The dark knight scratched his nose idly.()

Tell ya' what, though: I happen to be headed to the Umbral Island in the middle of the Abyssal Sea, and I was thinking of taking a leisurely boat ride there to conserve my chakra. Right now, most of the vehicle-purchasing options are out of town or too busy, and the teleporters in the pokécenter are down, but the boat shop is always open. If you're up for it, we could walk over there and split the cost of a two-man boat rental, and, by the time that we're at the island, if I don't think that you can handle yourself, I have a couple ideas for ways to give you a hand.
